Apple’s watchOS 4.1 is rolled out with extraordinary features; and for fitness lovers, watchOS 4.1 has got GymKit.
With the help of GymKit, you can connect your Apple Watch Workout app with a treadmill or any other gym equipment enabled with GymKit.
To sync your Apple Watch 1, Series 2 and Series 3 with a treadmill, you need to use NFC chip of the gym equipment. In this tutorial, we will give details on how you can pair Apple Watch with treadmill in watchOS 4.
What is GymKit?
According to Apple, “GymKit is a groundbreaking technology platform to connect workouts with cardio equipment”. It is Apple’s API, which was declared with ARKit at WWDC 2017.
As the name tells us, GymKit will smoothly work with gym equipment when you hold your Apple devices near the equipment.
Apple’s official statement says, “With GymKit, customers using their favourite cardio equipment will soon be able to pair their Apple Watch directly to treadmills, ellipticals, indoor bikes or stair steppers from global manufacturers such as Life Fitness and Technogym with a simple tap.
Further, Apple reveals, “In an industry first, data not previously communicated between smartwatch and fitness machine will sync seamlessly – including calories, distance, speed, floors climbed, incline and pace – resulting in the most accurate measurements possible with less device management”.
GymKit works on watchOS 4 and later…
Make sure your Apple Watch is running watchOS 4 and later version as the GymKit will not work on earlier operating systems, and therefore, you won’t be able to sync your Apple Watch with gym equipment.
What about treadmill compatibility with Apple Watch GymKit?
Your Apple Watch is running watchOS 4, but is the treadmill is compatible with GymKit? Well, you will have to wait for some time until manufacturers come up with GymKit enabled equipment.
Probably because gym equipment cannot be created overnight, it will take some weeks for gym equipment makers to enable their bikes, treadmills and other devices with GymKit.
We expected that compatible gym machines would be introduced in the market shortly after the release of watchOS 4; even after a month of its launch, there is no gym equipment enabled with GymKit.
However, fitness enthusiasts should not lose heart as there might be many manufacturers planning to come up with smart machines.
Some of the leading gym equipment makers have announced that they are coming up with advanced gym machines; prominent names are Cybex, SCIFIT, Star Trac, Nautilus, LifeFitness, StairMaster and Schwinn.
Once these makers launch the latest machines equipped with GymKit, they would never remain silent on this and blow the trumpet loud.
So keep your eyes on latest news and events; you can also keep checking updates on your iOS devices and smart watch.
