How to Reset Amazon Echo, Echo Plus and Echo Dot Devices

Amazon has created a range of Echo devices that have captured the market of smart speakers of late. Giving tough competition to Google’s Home and HomePod (which is not yet released) from Apple, Amazon Echo and Echo Dot have met with a technical glitch.

And following this issue, the devices have become unresponsive. Users feel their talking parrots have become mute after downing hot chillies. Guys, it is time to reset your Amazon Echo, Echo Plus or Echo Dot device.

You need to reset your Amazon Echo devices even though they are not unresponsive. For example, you have to reset your Echo and Echo Dot before you hand it over to other user.

But remember that once you reset your Echo device, you have to register it to an Amazon account and enter the device settings again to use it in future.

Before you go ahead with the process to reset your Echo device, you can restart your device to see if that fixes the issue.

To restart Echo: Disconnect the power adapter from the back of the device or from wall outlet, and next connect the power adapter again.

 

How to Reset Amazon Echo and Echo Dot Device (First Generation)

Step #1: Take a paper clip (or other similar tool) to press and hold the Reset button. Reset button is at the base of the Echo device.

Step #2: Once your press and hold the Reset button, the light ring on Echo goes orange and then blue.

Step #3: Wait until the light ring turns off and on again.

Step #4: Next, that light ring becomes orange, and your device is now in setup mode.

Step #5: Here, you need to launch Alexa app to connect Echo device to a Wi-fi network and register the device to Amazon account.

Now use Alexa to interact with your Echo and Echo Dot.

 

How to Reset Amazon Echo and Echo Dot Device (Second Generation)

Echo 2nd Generation device has volume buttons, and therefore, its process to reset changes.

Step #1: Press and hold Microphone off and Volume down buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds or until the light ring turns orange. Then the light ring goes blue.

Step #2: You will have to wait until the light ring turns off and on again. The light ring turns orange again, and your Echo device in the setup mode.

Step #3: Now you need to launch Alexa app to connect your Echo device to Wi-fi network, and then register the device to your Amazon account.

If you want to reset your Amazon Echo Plus without losing your smart home device connections, then follow this guide:

Step #1: Get a paper clip (or any other similar tool) to press the Reset button located at the base of your Echo device.

Step #2: After pressing reset button, Echo device light rings and then turns orange.

Step #3: Now, your device enters into a setup mode.

Step #4: Next, Open Alexa app and connect your Plus device to a Wi-Fi network and then register it to your Amazon account.

Just in case if you want to reset factory settings of your Amazon Echo Plus device, then follow below mentioned steps:

Note that after resetting Amazon Echo Plus, previously connected all smart home devices will need to be reset in order to make them discoverable again.

Step #1: Press and hold the Reset button for at least 8 seconds using Paper Clip.

Step #2: Once you press Reset button, the light ring on your device goes orange and then blue.

Step #3:  Finally, wait until the light ring to turn off and on again. The light ring then goes orange and your Alexa device enters into a setup mode.

Step #4: Now, Launch Alexa App and connect Amazon Echo Plus to a Wi-Fi network and get registered into an Amazon account.
