Android is one of the most popular operating systems in use today. Given the ton of free features, services and all sorts of technology that come along with an Android phone, it’s also one of the safest options to choose in terms of an operating system on your phone.
But like any technology, Android also sometimes doesn’t function perfectly and many processes might show you errors.
The Error Code 0 in Google Play Store is one of those common errors that might show up on an Android phone. Thankfully, since Android is an open source technology, widely used all over the world, the solutions to this error, and many more exist.
What is Error Code 0?
This error has been reported by many users while downloading or updating an application from the Google Play Store. It is always shown in a popup message box which reads the following:
“App can’t be downloaded. Try again, and if the problem continues, get help troubleshooting (Error code: 0)”
These error codes are nothing to be scared about. In fact, they are pretty common and come in different forms as well, such as, code 11, Error code 927, code 495, code 971, and much more.
Error codes are actually sets of numbers used for error identification. They represent three things about the error. They are: what kind of error it is, the possible cause, and the actions which caused the error in the first place.
These codes are used specifically by app vendors and developers to address bugs in their application.
Why does Error Code 0 occur?
When an application is run on a phone, Google Play Store requires system permissions for it. Typically, if proper permissions are not set so that Google Play Store has system access, the Error Code 0 may show up.
Also, app cache and data issues can cause this error, as well as corrupted files in the system, may end up breaking the way application functions in your phone.
How to fix Error Code 0?
There are actually a few possible solutions for this issue, which we will be going through one by one. You might need to apply all the solutions to see if the problem has been fixed.
1: Clear Cache From Google Play Store
Caches can help run applications smoothly in your phone, but sometimes caches can run on for too long and the data inside it can get too big. There could also be corrupted files that might be causing problems. It’s time to clear the cache.
- Go to Settings.
- Then, go to Application/Apps/Installed Apps.
(optional step depending on Android version and phone manufacturer: Tap on Manage Apps)
- Search for Google Play Store.
- Tap on Clear Data option.
- Select Clear Cache option.
Check if the problem still persists.
2: Clear Google Play Store Data
If the problem still persists, then you might want to delete all Google Play Store data stored on your phone.
- Go to Settings in your phone like before.
- Go to Application/Apps/Installed Apps.
(optional step depending on Android version and phone manufacturer: Tap on Manage Apps) - Search for Google Play Store.
- Now, tap on Clear Data option.
- Then, tap on Clear all data option.
3: Set Permissions for Google Play Store
As was previously mentioned, this error code might show up if Google Play Store can’t get the proper systems permissions and access it requires. To fix it, you will need to set permissions for Google Play Store.
- Go to Settings.
- Go to Applications/Apps/Installed Apps.
(optional step depending on Android version and phone manufacturer: Tap on Manage Apps) - Search for Google Play Store.
- Locate the App permissions option.
- Enable permission for all the available options.
Check to see if the problem still exists.
4: Set Permissions for Google Play Services
You need to follow the same steps as above but for Google Play Services.
Depending on which version of Android you’re using and the specific manufacturer’s phone, Google Play Services might not be present in your phone. Nothing to get worried about, as this simply means that after a certain version Google Play Services was merged with Google Play Store. If that’s the case for you, you can simply skip this step.
If not, follow the instructions below:
- Go to Settings menu.
- Go to Applications/Apps/Installed Apps.
(optional step depending on Android version and phone manufacturer: Tap on Manage Apps) - Search for Google Play Services.
- Tap on App permissions.
- Enable permission for all available options.
