Alarm is one of the basic features on your Apple iPhone, but it is arguably the most important one as we begin our day with alarm. Every morning, it is your alarm that wakes you up and if it fails you may run late for the day. When cosy comforter doesn’t allow you to get out of your bed, your iPhone alarm keeps telling you: “Get up and go man!” Not only this, you can use alarm feature on your iPhone and iPad for other small reminders also. I use this feature to remind myself that I have to check my blood sugar two hours after taking my lunch or dinner. And when you come to know that your alarm is not working on your iPhone or iPad, you go through hellish pain or follow this tutorial that tells you how to fix alarm not working on iPhone or iPad in iOS 11 issue.
Normally such bugs arrive with the iOS update, and I have noticed that many iPhone and iPad users have faced this alarm not working issue after they have updated their iOS devices to the iOS 11 and later versions. Not to worry about this problem as you can easily fix your alarm issues by following a few simple solutions.
How to Fix Alarm Not Working in iOS 11 on iPhone and iPad Issue
Primarily, you need to check two things on your iPhone or iPad: check the mute switch and check volume level. The mute switch is above the volume up/down button on left of your iOS device; if you have muted your device, you need to unmute it first. Similarly, keep your device volume to the maximum (you have to get up in the morning after a 7-hour sleep). After the two steps taken, follow the methods given below to fix alarm not working issue on your iPhone or iPad.
Delete Current Alarms & Create New Ones
I use at least three alarms on my iPhone; a wake-up alarm, sugar alarm and movie alarm (when any satellite channel is going to air my favourite flick). To get rid of alarm issue, I deleted all my alarms from my phone and then set them again.
Step #1: Open Clock app from the home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Step #2: From the bottom menu, tap on Alarm.
Step #3: This will show you all your alarms; tap on Edit button from the top left corner.
Step #4: All your alarms will be now in Edit mode with a red button before each one; tap on that red circle.
Step #5: You can now see a Delete box appears from the right side. Now delete that alarm by tapping on that Delete box.
Go ahead and delete all your alarms by following the same method.
Once all alarms are deleted from the app, you need to restart your device. After the launch of iPhone 7, Apple has made some changes in the method of restarting iPhones. We have created dedicated tutorials to restart and force restart your devices:
- Force Restart iPhone 8 and 8 Plus
- Restart iPhone or iPad without Home Button and Power Button
- Restart or reboot iPhone X and iPhone 8/8 Plus
- Reboot iPhone 7
Many users have experienced that their iPhones keep restarting; if you also face similar issue, check our guide to fix iPhone keeps restarting problem.
When your iPhone is restarted, go to Clock app and then create new alarms. When in Alarm interface, tap on ‘+’ icon from the top right corner and then follow steps on screen.
Uninstall Third-Party Alarm Apps
Many users like to use third-party alarm apps on their iPhones and iPads; this results into collision between your stock app and the one you have downloaded from the App Store. I think the stock app is cool enough to give you good results. You can quickly delete third-party alarm apps: press and hold the app until it begins to wiggle; next, tap on ‘X’ icon appears on the app to delete that app.
For the best use of your iPhone, you need to keep your device updated to the latest software update. A software update can fix many minor bugs on your iPhone; at the same time, it makes your phone more secure. Run a check on your iPhone if any iOS update is pending; if yes, you should immediately update your phone (use Wi-fi connection only).
Settings → General → Software Update → Download and Install.
Reset All Settings
When you are set to reset all settings on your iPhone, you should know that this action will remove all your Wi-fi passwords and website logins. However, your data will remain secure.
Step #1: Launch Settings and then tap on General.
Step #2: Now scroll down and tap on Reset.
Step #3: Next, you need to tap on Reset All Settings.
Step #4: If you have set up a passcode on your phone, you will be prompted to enter that six-digit passcode here.
Simply type in your passcode and then go ahead.
Restore as New
This should be your last action taken on your iPhone or iPad if Alarm app is not working. Given the petty issue of alarm, you may not have to take this extreme measure. When all your attempts fail, you can restore your iPhone or iPad from iTunes.
